Cool To see the fleet and the red ones I gather are the top ranked ones! Looks like the might go the wrong side of Madagascar!

Very nice indeed! It gives you a good picture of how well you've sailed your strategy so far.

Wonderful touch. Thanks Cvetan!
All I need now is a button for all the boats in the drop down list. Saves me the cut-and-paste operation when running my brother's boat...

Yeah nice :), remembers me of the ol´ VOR days when zezo started, was it 3 or 4 years ago?

Almost 3 years. It was April 2009 for the start of the Rio-Boston leg.

Blue dots are coming back too, but will work only with the chrome extension.

Yeah, really cool to see the other boats as well, was always wondering how that would look like...:)

Just wonder where you get the data of other boat positions?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2011-12-16 | 00:03:43
The Chrome plugin uploads the data it gets from the game.

Hey Cvetan, that looks pretty cool! Looks a bit like when I spill the pepper on the table cloth though :-)

This is cool. Can anyone access the data? Quick question. The dots are making it apparent that Zezo uses a different projection for the graphic than VORG does. Any idea the significant differences in the distortion?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2011-12-16 | 07:39:01
The games uses the correct Mercator projection. They must have consulted real navigators when designing the interface ;).

I use a square grid with no scaling of latitude. Difference is not significant around the equator but starts showing up once you leave the tropics.

I've thought about using different projection, but it will double the size of the images. Flash has some advantage here because the chart is in vector format. It can be done in html5 too now, but it was not the case 3 years ago.

Yes, you are a genius, Cvetan! But, what exactly is that collection of boats the SS is showing?

It can't be all the 120000 (or so) boats in the game, and it seems to me that it also is not the group I'm following, but something bigger?

All boats from watchlists of people who have used the Chrome plugin in the last hour - that makes some of the dots a hour behind their actual position - but gives a pretty good random (a bit skewed towards more active players) sample of the fleet - between 1000 and 3000 boats, depending on time of the day.

Blue dots (friends) are back! Yippie!

You are a genius Cvetan! The dot´s are great to get a view over other boats. Helps you to plan.
Do you have a new computer? The updates seem to be much faster.

Yes. Bought a new 4-core system to go along with my old 2-core one, and I have used Amazon cloud instances for few hours during this leg too.

Nice one on the blue dots Cvetan, but what are the red dots?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2011-12-22 | 23:28:44
What red dots? Top 10?
Post by iconPost by BennyLava | 2011-12-23 | 00:01:45
I see the big blue dots as my friends, but also the small black and red dots. the red ones are in front on the left and the right pack, but not the top 10, there are more red dots than 10...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2011-12-23 | 00:30:33
The small red are the boats in the top 100 that I know. About 50-60 of them currently.
