A router would not be very useful on that type of race, but I'll take a look if I have some time to spare.

Great ,
with all the buoys, it would be more!
I pray that you can have enough time!

Hello,

As requested olilauste, zezo will be available for this race where the buoys are numerous?
Many of us hope that.

Hello,
Congratulations for your work, a thousand thanks to you for having posted the RORC Caribbean.
Many of us use zezo as a basis to play on VR !!!

Please keep in mind that on a such short course the result is going to be decided by creative use of waypoints/scheduled changes with sub-10 minute resolution (if using full options).

The router can give you approximate idea about the route, but that won't be enough.

Also most of the legs are on a reach without tacks/jibes, so the straight line should be fastest, unless you hit polar crossover point.

And finally the chart resolution is not enough for those small islands, but you should already know that.

Thank you for your advice, but zezo is just a working basis, I also pacotool as a tool and weather files and also the route planner : great circle.

On some races you can do fine just by using my router, but this race is not one of them.

Most players are probably aware of this, but maybe some are not, so it had to be said.

Hello there :)
Zezo link works fine from Chrome Extension on 3D RORC view.

But it seems that calculation route engine still stay inactive.

Thanks for your awesome work Cvetan :)

It's working fine after "checking" the box "Ignore gates".
Do not forget to "check" also "6 %" box.

Hey.
thx for your clever help TomekN ( "checking" the box "Ignore gates" is the key ^^ ) !

Hi Cvetan,

I just noticed that the routing engine only works when the "ignore gates" option is unchecked.

However, the polars still seem to contain wrong data, and it doesn't look like a rounding issue that time.
For instance, I'm sailing in a 6,3kts wind (63° TWA), and VR tells me that my boat speed is 5.5kts. However, Zezo's polars shows a 4.19kts boat speed...
Because of this, I guess that the Optimum VMG are wrong too.

Any hints ?

Indeed VR Polars application somehow different.

Back Wind 10knt
On VR : VM Spi => 145° for approx 5.3 knt
On Zezo : VM Spi => 143° for 4.75 knt

Front wind 10knt :
On VR : VM Jib => 33-34° for approx 5.8
On Zezo : VM Jib => 42° for 4.43 Knt

Regards

Sorry, I prepared support for the this years race, but then did not have the time to verify how it works. It's different boat than the last year (class 40 vs mach45).

"ignore gates" is needed for the old URL because I was updating the gates as the fleet was moving - some of the waypoints are passed twice on different sides.

Guess it's too late now anyway.

too late for the "gates" thing, but not for the polars...

Maybe it's a harder work than I imagine, but don't you just download the polar CSV files from http://static.virtualregatta.com/vpp/mono/class_40/ and that's it ?

Do you have to digest them in a hard way ? (I'm curious on where/when you do the interpolation regarding the missing values)

(Gentle UP for this last edited question)

It's not hard, but requires constant attention because things change. Sometimes VR update polars in the last minute, the 3D view is not visible before the start, sometimes the forecast gets delayed along the way and so on, so providing perfect service is 24/7 support job.

BTW around the start of that race my 9 month old daughter got a flu with a high fever, so the game was not exactly a priority.
