Anyone know how much south can we dive in the next fifth leg to Brasil? I am sure we will have limit how much south can we dive. I don`t remember how it was in last VOR.

The real world SI define the ice limit as a line between 55S/149W and 55S/132W

The Great Circle line goes as low as 64S 57. It crosses 56S at 158W. The winds may not be that great below 56W or maybe I am weak in the knees. Then there is the cyclone east of NZL on the 15th. This is going to be interesting.

Does the router consider the GC?

The VR game has been set up for leg 5. There is an Ice limit set up at this time from S47/W150 to S47/W130. The official VVOR SI has not been released at this time as far as I can see.

I did post a question about the race start in the VVOR forum. I am wondering if the VR/MP group will delay the VVOR race start if the VOR race officials decide to delay the start of the real boats.

A question for Cvetan: will ZEZO be set up in the next day or so for Leg 5?

P.S. I understand there is an anomaly that prevents the scrolling of the chart very far to the East of New Zealand (not as far as South America any ways). I have been successful in setting up the start and destinations and producing a route but I cannot see the Eastern end of the route as it curves up around SA. The route disappears when I scroll the map to the west to find the SA continent. A refresh just resets the chart to the origin of the boat.

Steve, thanks for the information and insider status report. A delay of the start would seem outside scheduling as it is not our concern. It is also interesting the ice bar was set so high above the VOR SI and into not favorable winds. I dare to ask the reason why as it is well outside the Great Circle route and on the slow Rhumb line; dead on the eastern end and increasing this Leg 400nm. Interesting indeed.

There is a different mental process here and maybe another agenda. It is not our game but to follow. It is a dictated race course.

So, we will get on with it...

The current (preliminary) VR marks at 47S are set up like a gate - looks like you should pass between them. I think that was the case for one of the previous round the world races, maybe not a VOR.

The tropical cyclone Pam is expected to move South
(http://blog.metservice.com/2015/03/tropical-update-mar15/) and that may postpone the start by 2-3 days. They won't be sending the boats out into a 80kt winds.

This might also affect the virtual race, but you never know when VR decide to stick with the real-world details and when they don't.

About the 180E/W issue - the chart is not endless, it spans 720 degrees and does not wrap around. It will fix itself (moving the track to the left side of the chart) within about a day after the start (after your boat passes the 180 deg line)

According to the course line the "Gates" are a Fence. Leg 4 apparently has closed according to my board. I think we will get more information this time.
