That means the projected tracks are more or less equal. That's when the human brain can be wiser then the router by selecting the less risky option, based on real-world knowledge, previous experience and common sense.

Just following the router may get you into top 1000, but won't get you into top 10. For that you have to commit on a strategy and then have some luck with it.

Well, a real-world routing software can even assist you in that regard by using ensemble forecasts, different weather models and so on. That's why you pay the $5000 license and monthly forecast subscription after all.

You may know that already, but the info may benefit other players.

one thing that does seem to work OK in VR at the moment is the search for boat names: there is at least one boat you can find if you search for the most likely name...

Don't know about the game, but the real fleet seems to be sailing in the wake of my virtual boat ;-)

still hoping for the virtual leaders to get parked enough in the Doldrums (at 4 kts) to get something out of their 500+ nm lead ...

I opt for a sailing game with weather updates, similair to the prevailing weather but different/independant from the real weather, and therefore making any routing software obsolete. In the meantime I will make partial use of Zezo. Thank you!

@chelonia. That would be boring, blindly sailing around the world. Sorta like playing chess with a blindfold on. For me it is a weather routing game, I would not play if it was completely made up. No matter how much weather routing you do, decisions still need to be made with how you interpret that information.
Post by iconPost by nsp | 2017-11-11 | 21:33:18
Really CHelonia? And then you will say that the game provider changed the weather to bennefit some friends...I am just guessing in advance what would happen.

There is no offshore sailing without routing or some kind of navigation. It's part of the game. it's part of the nature of things.

I agree with Nickolson it's like getting in an game of chess blinfolded.

We don't get away from problems we step up, face them and solve them ...and get a better world if possible.

@nickOlson @nsp Not blindly, you still have a 16 day forecast in the game, but not the benefit of routing software calculating the best possible route. You will have to navigate based on your own navigation skills etc. Pretty much like the old days. Hardly boring I´d say. How do we know now if the provider is not cheating at some point one way or the other?! You never know I guess as there are too many variables. And as far as a better world is concerned, let´s start with solving money first, and then the rest will follow :-)
Anyways, I enjoy the game as is and Zezo makes it less complicated and I thank him for that! Fair winds, and I wait for you in Capetown :-0

That would be much harder to do the the real deal. The weather should be consistent, so you can't just pick random data. So you should get your supercomputer and start running the GFS disconnected from reality. Then I'm not sure how long it can survive without external input before turning into chaos.

Then you should not have access to the global forecast at all - just your local conditions, if you want to emulate "the old days". Not sure if it will be much fun.
