Has anyone ever tried to take the historical weather information and plotted the "perfect" course for a leg with the idea of obtaining the theoretical best possible course and time? It would be an enormous waste of time I suppose BUT it would give the winners a sense of how well they are predicting the upcoming weather patterns.

Yes, there are VPP programs that are used by architects that use all the historical data. We tested 4 different hull configs by running them through the VPP program to pick the best hull shape for an around the world boat.

All you do is plug in your Specs pick time of year, route, etc. and presto. Recommended routes. Very cool, but Pricey...:)

Weather routing is expensive in general with single-user licenses for professional products starting at $1500 or so.

What would it cost to run through this sailing simulator?

Few hours of my time if we're talking about virtual boats. Real boat would benefit from better quality historical data and that would cost something, depending on the provider. I have archives 3 years back, but they are at the stupid 12h intervals. Full NOAA data should be available (possibly at a small price) too.

The historical data is what you pay for when you are trying to buid a boat for certain routes and conditions. The expensive platforms include wind, current, wave state (like it rough?), etc. for each region, for every month of the year.

Very helpful in planning a future trip or hull shape for certain conditions but not to good for what is happening right now or tomorrow for that matter.

Do you know what Commanders weather routing service charges for an offshore delivery or race? Well check it out! It is not cheap!

I can't see any reason why, YOU CVETAN, can't do the same and a hell of a ot better if you ask me!!!!

Go Cvetan Go!

Wow! You do like to hang onto data! My thoughts were purely around these virtual boats. More along the idea of "if I had of taken that route I'd of gained myself at least x number of hours on the whole leg".

Isn'6 it odd the thoughts one has at 2:45 in the morning!

Way cool!

Great work
I had downloaded the files but I can't find my boats.
How can I get that information?

Thanks

The files contain only about 50% of the boats. That's people who have used the chrome plugin and boats on their watch list.

And how I can get this information? I'm using chrome under XP

Thanks

It's too late for the old data - Leg 1 tracks are not visible in the game. I think about plugin feature that will let you export your own track and position as kmz or gpx.

I was suposed to. But, for this leg?

Thanks again
