Hi Cvetan -

Thank you for not giving up! You're doing a great job with the adjustments.

Before VR's recent changes, did your tool consider which tack the boat was on, and which sail it was using? It would have to, if it was going to consider the penalty for sail changes and tacks/gybes, on its initial course recommendation.

But... the current version cannot account for that. If the programming was already there from the old version to consider this, then... could you add something to the inputs, next to the Lat/Lon inputs, where the user can specify which tack they're on and which sail they're using? Maybe make it an optional input, and have the programming ignore the inputs if the user doesn't specify anything?

Just a thought. Probably not important in most cases. At the moment, it's telling me to gybe a couple times in the next few hours, including an immediate gybe and it's hard to know if the recommendation might be different if it "knew" that its proposed initial course was a gybe from the course I'm currently on.

Thanks!

- Mom

The penalty should not matter that much with the time-interpolated winds. It matters most with the wind squares where the router tends to tack every 10 minutes if there is no tacking penalty in the optimizer. In shifty/changing winds this should rarely happen.
