A mark named Nemo Point at S49'30 W123'00 appears on the game display when the scale is less than 100nms. What is it? Is it a gate used for calculations? No mention of it in any sailing instructions. I am presuming it can be ignored.

You can ignore it... or go above it and take a picture for "souvenir" :-)

One of the things that drew me into VR when I got addicted to it in the last edition of VOR was the world geography. I really enjoy it when I need to sail by some random little island, or when I'm considering cutting through an awkward little strait, etc, because I'll generally open another window, pull up Google Earth (if VR and Zezo didn't already provide a name), zoom in to see what it really looks like, get a name, check a Wikipedia page or two, etc. I find that far more interesting than "sending it" at TWA 140 in the wide open southern ocean for 5 days straight with nothing to look at other than the rest of the fleet. Looking forward to Cape Horn.

We are like minded YourMomSA! Unfortunately Nemo Point is not an island and I hadn't thought as far as Wikepeida thinking it was a race mark or calculation point. Like you, I look up things the last being the Antipodes Island as I went sailing past, somewhere else I'd not heard of, but it looked a bit austere!

Been desperately trying to keep up with your group but slowly sliding back so heading NE where I think I've spotted a vein of strong wind in the right direction. I know from your last Volvo leg you are not afraid of moving away from the crowd. Worth a try - only time will tell. See you at the Horn.

Many years ago, when my statistics were way better than nowadays, I was interviewed by the local Volvo magazine and this (@YourMomSA) is exactly what I told them. Almost a year just looking at the screen and doing your calculation (no zezo in the early days) is way too boring, so adding the geography interest to the equation gave me much pleasure. And just when I thought I have seen it all someone finds the Nemo Point.

Nemo Point is the point on earth furthest from civilisation. Apparently the crew of the ISS are your nearest neighbours. Read it on the VOR website somewhere.

Honestly, they're hyping it up a bit. ISS orbits at only ~400km, you don't have to go as far as Nemo Point (~2700km from nearest land) for it to be your nearest neighbour. There's plenty of other places where that's true.

Nearest neighbor you are aware of....
