Does anybody knows if the SF-NY regatta, validated for 8/31/2019, will take place..?

I'm sure it will. It's a record, not a fleet race. So the start date is just your first opportunity to start, and it won't show up to allow entries until then. Its start intentionally coincides with the closure of the Atlantic Record. I'm guessing its closure will be in January.

Ambiguity
Talk to you about SF-NY or NY-SF?
To date SF-NY is not on the VR schedule....It seems to me

Now, just few hours ago, VR flipped the course.
Too much confusion...

Perhaps too soon to ask, as VR flipped the course a few hours ago...but will Zezo provide support ?

Bird is probably preparing the routing. The trip is long

I'm currently on vacation. Will try do do something between the morning and afternoon beachgoing. Or later in the day.

You can use the Yokohama chart to get you started:

http://zezo.org/yokohama/chart.pl?lat=40.49709&lon=-73.9504&o=8

Just make sure you ignore the gates and set your destination around Cape Horn

But I'll have to fix the "Predicted times" table.

Now that it's open, we can see that it will close on November 29 (or 30, depending on your time zone). 90 days. That isn't much for a race this long. Probably not enough to finish two runs unless both are fast. My guess is that most of us will wait for Dorian and start in a few days... By then, we'll have roughly 85 days left.

There's a good chance at least two more good starting windows will occur before it's too late to finish an attempt. So the key question in the short term, if you don't want to pay 1,000 credits to restart, is... Will Dorian be the best opportunity, or not?

Of course, like the Spindrift record events, it's impossible to figure out the actual best starting window because we have no way of knowing what will be happening in the North Pacific 30 days from now. For all we know, starting immediately could be the best move.

Hello

which is the goal of predicted times : Ponta de pedras or Equator ?

Cvetan, if you have a moment, could you please update the color codes on the start prediction table? Maybe max green around 185 hours and max red around 240 hours? Something like that...

The headwinds after Cape Horn are killing the Dorian starters. Restarts are tempting at times.

I'm having an issue with selecting San Francisco as the destination. If I select SF from the dropdown menu I am routed back to NY, and even if I manually find SF on the map and select that as the destination, I still get routed back up the East Coast rather than around to SF. Has anyone else had this issue? I am still yet to round Cape Horn on my current attempt so maybe that has something to do with it, though I'm not sure why it should.

You can't route around South America in one run. Go for Cape Horn first, or possibly for a point in the South Pacific.

One of the reasons for that is that the router only considers +/- 140 degree from the origin, so SF is out of scope when you are on the East side. But it also can'ta sail backwards (get closer to the origin) so just increasing the angle won't work. That's why it needs some human input.

An excellent explanation Cvetan, thank you. And thanks for all you do in general with this site, truly a marvel!
