I'm almost to Rio, well past the first mark, and still neither VR or the router show rankings. Does anyone know how to get that? I'd like to see where I stand and who's around me so I can track them.

Also, anyone know how ERT in the fleet tab is calculated? The top VSR people are showing 7 days faster than me, and to do that they'd have to pass me. That's not possible.

One has to complete the whole run to be ranked.
And so far, no one did AFAIK

ERT is simply an extrapolation of your measured average speed onto the remaining distance. It is not based on any routing information and it is highly unreliable, but some find it fun to watch ;-)

As an example, I started in strong winds brought along by the hurricane and my initial ERT was around 15d. Now it's down to 26d12h and it will probably still increase. In contrast, the first boats started in light winds and I expect their ERT to decrease even further.

I believe the first boat on the water is "SlyStarLeRetour". He started three minutes after the event opened. At the first buoy, Fouras_17 was ahead of him, but then Fouras chose to restart yesterday. Their time to the first buoy was just under 10 days. I believe the best of the Dorian starters will get to the first buoy with times of 8 days and 8-12 hours... So about a day and a half ahead to that point. But of course, there's a lot of racing left. If the boats who started early get a nice weather system anywhere in the remaining 8,000+ nm, they could overcome that deficit and post winning times that the Dorian starts can't catch.

Fouras_17 and the others who restarted yesterday also have good timing to get to the first buoy fast, but they need to make more progress before their time to the first buoy can be estimated with confidence. And of course, we still have 77 days of racing, so there will be 30-40 more days of viable starting opportunities before it's too late to finish a start. I'm hoping to finish my first run in time to do a second one.

The reality with this kind of event is that sometimes good starts wind up being bad finishes because those starters encounter terrible conditions later... and sometimes the winner is someone who started in slow conditions and got something wonderful later. All you can do is race to the finish as fast as possible and see what happens when you get there.

With all that said... I thought the VR Rankings page would show the "first buoy" ranking when we get there... For Spindrift, it shows that for each gate, after you get there. Is it not showing that for boats who have gotten there?

Hi All, indeed there is no gate at mark 1 but strangely enough i noticed VR seems to have changed their mind meanwhile there is a new sentence while clicking on "Ranking: You will be able to see your intermediate ranking once you"ll reach the first gate"... so i am puzzled and will keep you posted if there is (or not :)) a gate ranking at mark 2 The Horn.
Kind regards
Sylvain

How are you able to see who started when? I can only figure out how to see people I'm following and other than picking names off the VSR rankings, I can't see another way to pick people to follow. This would be a lot more interesting if you could see who's around you and who's in front.

You can search for people and add them to your "follow" list, but aside from that and VSR, it's a big mystery. I agree that VR could do better with this.

Regarding SlyStar's comments, I think VR always has that "you will be able to see your intermediate ranking" sentence in these record attempts... The problem is that they aren't viewing the buoys as ranking gates.

Correct - i can confirm there is no gate thus no intermediate ranking at the Horn - fair winds to all

I started without sails :-(
Now I have to wait at least two or three more weeks to buy them and restart.
Damn ...

You can always buy sails on the go. Click on your boat in the game. It will show all sails, foils, etc Just select the one you need and buy it

Not posting the leaderboard after the first mark is disappointing. I feel good about where I am, but would restart if there were a bunch of people a day ahead of me. I purposely started in the first good window (day 2) with the hope of making two or more runs.

Any other day 2 starters out there? I'm considering a major departure from the zezo route and it would be nice to have a benchmark to see if that was the right thing to do.

In a long race like it approaches randomness.

I like Mom's idea of getting two runs in. It double's your odds. I may have missed the window.
