They are making a mess
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-02 | 20:43:45
The polars are Imoca 60. With foils.

I'll put together the new version (along with the old imoca like with the minis) probably tomorrow.
Post by iconPost by nitros | 2017-10-02 | 21:40:12
Sorry I meant they VR are making mess, no zezo
Post by iconPost by pmangino | 2017-10-02 | 21:47:50
All seems to be a sarcastic joke... :-)
Post by iconPost by karriv | 2017-10-02 | 21:41:07
So already this VVOR is probably also raced with an IMOCA with foils.A glimpse to the future;)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-02 | 21:56:25
We'll see. They wanted to implement exactly that in the next edition anyway ;-)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-02 | 21:57:10
This is the old version to get feeling of the leg. Foil edition tomorrow ;-)

Is there any way for a layman to extract the polars direct from VR? Like there used to be? If not, any chance you'd put them available somewhere in csv format? I don't need the clipper polars, but Volvo would be nice.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-02 | 23:47:43
It's moderately complicated to get a csv without the foils. Adding the exact foil effect requires some programming.

I don't have the code to get exactly the old data format, but it won't be too hard.

I posted the Volvo polars in text format on https://www.facebook.com/groups/vor2017nms

Bonjour,

Avec tous ces changements arrives sur la nouvelle plateforme VR, quelles polaires utilisez vous pour jouer a la Clipper?

Des conseils?

Quelqu un pourrait il remettre les fichiers de polaire ici?

Merci a tous
Post by iconPost by toxcct | 2017-10-03 | 18:08:46

Post by iconPost by homer74 | 2017-10-04 | 01:51:36
Oui Merci pour la reponse...

J'avais bien saisi la problematique c est pourquoi je demandais justement... ^^

Bon et bien bossez bien et merci d'avance pour vos contributions a ce sujet ^^

Bonne course a tous!

PS: je pars avec polish et les voiles de brise vents forts... on verra bien...

PS2: Sinon si on voulait utiliser un fichier "proche" des Clipper70 dans un routeur externe quelles polaires conseilleriez vous?

In this regatta I will sail without light wind sails, PRO winches, or polish.
The arrival will be tough!

I am calculating the credits I earn or lose ...

See what happens...

Hi guys . Sorry, i didn 't play since the last "VendeeGlobe" . Where can we find our lat/Long in the new vr version, please ?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-04 | 18:17:17
The 3D view.

Or click your boat and then 6 times the right arrow (or click the last dot directly)
Post by iconPost by turb | 2017-10-04 | 18:41:18
Or just one time on the left arrow :)
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-04 | 19:07:02
Ooops. Thanks. I click the dot with the mouse, but the hint could be useful on a phone.
Post by iconPost by ASK-CANNES | 2017-10-04 | 18:19:28
..for now, no 3dview available , for me .
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-04 | 18:21:45
Click your boat then. There are multiple info panels. Not sure how to explain it better.
Post by iconPost by ASK-CANNES | 2017-10-04 | 18:38:04
It's perfect ; No Problem . I got the lat / Long by this path . Thank You
Post by iconPost by ASK-CANNES | 2017-10-04 | 18:21:23
Ok , by the path : click the boat , and then go to the last dot . Thank's a lot .
Post by iconPost by meteo79niort | 2017-10-05 | 11:37:52
I think our boats are slowed around 3 to 4%
you can calculate your positions every 10 minutes here and it's not the same speed value
http://www.lexilogos.com/calcul_distances.htm
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-05 | 13:26:58
Just tried it for 10 minutes and got boat speed of 14 instead of 22 knots.

It's not clear when and where the position calculation happens. I will try recording the displayed positions for 10-15 minutes while also checking the game protocol messages to see what's going on behind the scenes.

Edit:

Client-side and server-side speeds don't match (as observed before by looking at your boat from another boat)

Server:

"speed" : 21.31728 , "tws" : 25.99033 , "twd" : 342.12722 , "twa" : -145.0
Display: speed 22.2

The Mini now says speed 8.659 displayed: 8.5

The 'rafales' are coming back.....pffft...by how much are they going to manipulate the wind data?
Post by iconPost by meteo79niort | 2017-10-06 | 06:41:03
No, it's not gusts. We are still slowing down from 3.5 to 4% since yesterday.
For the VG we were accelerated by 6%, but here it is the reverse
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-06 | 07:55:04

"Gusts" sounds like a funny name for "bizarre calculation error in the server code that we can't find and fix"

The weird thing is that the reported wind speed is accurate. What is different is the boat speed - right now in the Clipper a knot below what the interface says - 23.7 vs 22.8, which is about the difference the foils add.

My current bet would be that the foils don't exist server-side, if there was not similar difference in the Imoca polars before they invented the foils.

Edit: I just checked my other boat - without foils the speeds match client- and server-side. Maybe I should add that "Broken foils" checkbox after all.

BTW the server reports the actual boat speed, accounting for the sail change/tack penalty. My first impression is that double sail change within the 5-minute interval cancels the penalty. This should be investigated further
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-06 | 08:55:20

Second test:

1) Looks like the penalties are additive this time around. Sail chanage followed by a gybe dropped the speed to 1/4 of the original.

2) Sail change 1 minute later brought the speed back to 100%. If true this could be abused to get quite an advantage, especially without pro winches.

Unfortunately the spare boat does not have additional sails so I can't run full set of tests right now.

Edit: Nope. The speed just gets back to normal in one minute. Looks like so far the pro winches are in the same realm as the foils - just a sales tool.
Post by iconPost by Sama2 | 2017-10-06 | 08:35:49
I also feel, foils doesn't work on server side. Since more than one day I can not catch up a competitor's boat. We have near the same route, same wind, in most of the time same angles, but can't gain up.
The UI displays always ca. 0,5 knot or more speed difference for me. Didn't checked my speed based on positions.
Already submitted a request (from the help page), but only a small answer arrived, they need more details, etc.
VR really cleared away all former result, forum, etc.?

PS: Is it possible somehow to get new pwd here? I could just register a new user, lost my old pwd.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-06 | 08:42:13
That's we are talking about. Other boats around you show different speed than your boat, and if you look at your boat from another player's account it would show the same (lower) speed the other bots sail.

P.S. I changed the password for Sama to the one you just set for Sama2

There may be a difference between the calculation that the program does on our computer (that's what we see) and the calculation that makes the server that controls the game (that's what actually happens in the game).

I see that in the Clipper, Nerderel goes a mile and a half behind me. Right now, with the same TWS TWA, the game tells me that I'm going to 23.2 (as in polars), and says that Nerderel goes to 22.4. Although it sure goes like me. And he will tell you that he goes to 23.2 and I to 22.4.
Maybe it is that in our computers, the program does not calculate the options like foils and polish that others can carry ... because the numbers we see on the screen are generated on our own computer, not on the central server.

Nor does the 3D view calculate options such as foils or polish.
You can check that the speed in 3D is the same as those of other boats that have the same wind as you.

Right now I'm going with strong wind sails and foils but no polish. If you multiply the speed I see for Nerderel, 22.39 (22.4) * 1.04 (my foils) and divide / 1.003 (my lack of polish, which Nerderel will take), = 23,216 (23.2) which is the speed that it marks for me (as it is also counted in the central computer).

I've removed the foils from the pro polars for the Clipper race, because that matches closely the server-side speed calculations.

There seems to be a big fork in the road for the Southern group and it currently depends on those 4% speed difference. You can still use the "6% extra speed" option to check the alternative route/forecast.
Post by iconPost by mak08 | 2017-10-06 | 22:15:42
I had entered Clipper with two boats at the same time earlier today, both with Code0, one with foils, one without. TWA 134/Speed 21.4 so the boat should be foiling. Both boats were travelling at ~20.6kts according to logged positions.

I don't care about GFS update glitches and I can even live with server unavailability. But selling fake features is going too far.

I joined @#!!&&Facebook now just to ask about this on the VR page.
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-06 | 23:09:08
Good luck with that. It's been this way for more than a year. They call it "gusts" and tell you it's documented behavior.

I mean they had not invented the foils yet, but the 5% difference was there. But sometimes it was in the opposite direction.

Cvetan,

You removed the foils from polars , but it seems the foils are included in the red and the green lines. For me, the lines are the most useful tool in Zezo (as you know ;) )

Good winds!
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-06 | 23:05:44
I fixed that too, but the data is marked for caching for 24 hours. There is a way to force it to refresh, should be ok now. If the green line is still too long please try Control-R or Control-Shift-R or something like that in the polar page.
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2017-10-06 | 23:40:56
I tempted with that. Not works
I cleared the cache memory. Now works well

Thans!
Post by iconPost by Alexandria | 2017-10-08 | 13:26:43
Could anyone explain how to check the boat speed on the server side without having another boat, please?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-08 | 14:07:41
You have to use the browser developer tools. Firefox needs an extension, Chrome has the tool builtin. But it's a bit complicated.

For Chrome:

1. open virtualregatta.com
2. Menu->More tools->developer tools (keyboard shortcut ctrl-shift-i)
3. Select the Network tab, WS subtab
4. Go to the game in the VR interface
5. In dev tools you have two websockets. Click the one in state Pending
6. You'll see message arrive every minute for every game you are playing

See the attached screenshot

Thanks a lot, Cvetan!
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2017-10-08 | 14:19:28
It may be possible to develop Firefox extension to simplify the task (and transfer boat position too) BUT it uses an API that is being obsoleted right now and won't work on mainstream firefox in few months.

That means a lot of complications by itself - installing older firefox version and then manually installing the extension, so I'm not sure yet if it's worth doing it. But in the past players have pulled data from firefox cache to get boat position, so who knows.
