Will we have support for the Tara Ocean?

Hope it doesn't cause system overload!

Added.

System load is lower now when we have the ice limit cutting the solution space in half.

Plus, I got nice donation by a user - few more servers. Original Xeons are v1 and a bit power hungry, which is OK for the winter. Few v2 CPUs are on the way from China, currently in Liege.

You deserve that!

Hi zezo: Tara Ocean added? Would you be kind enough to elaborate, please?

Current charts are from zezo.org/vg, so tied to Vendee Globe. There is another link to Tara with different polars and boats specs?

Thank you in advance!

Yes,

http://zezo.org/tara/chart.pl?

Should be linked on the home page too, you may have to reload it via control-shift-r.

Also available in the Dashboard after reloading the extension.

Thank you zezo! This race looks much more difficult, as it lasts only few days. Guys using routers will be chasing each other in a tight swarm, perhaps 1 nm^2 area. And in a slow, rather relaxing motion of ketch from the past...

FYI: Don't want to get picky but that ship is not a ketch--it's a schooner as the aftmast is not smaller than the foremast...

It works
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2020-12-10 | 21:58:23
In this boat there is a different optional sail, which is not present in others, and is not even foreseen in its polars. It doesn't have a name, but it is the most expensive, and probably the most useful. What happens is that I don't know if how it can be included in the polar ones, if it doesn't even have a box to mark it ...

Usually called "foils"
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2020-12-10 | 23:03:51
Hahaha
This heavy hulk does not have foils, so in the drawing they have put a strange and nameless headsail, and I did not realize that it was the substitute for foils! ...
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2020-12-10 | 23:05:34
It seems the most useful option in this race.

I don't get the options sorted. Some are clear, but:

What is
"Jib Top"
"Reaching Sail" and
"Hull Polish"

in the Zezo options?

Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-12-12 | 09:52:47
Foils are called Jib Top in this race
"Reaching sail" is the Code Zero (C0)

Hull polish is not available as separate option. The difference is too small (0.3%) to affect the routing strategy and is constant, unlike the foils.

Thank you, Sir!
Post by iconPost by Inicio | 2020-12-12 | 10:37:16
Well... all options are wery little effect in this race.

Even the most effective, JibTop (foils) has only a bit more effect than the hull polish!

The question is where 1000 credits are spent best...
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-12-12 | 11:06:42
It's usually foils of you have few coins left from another race and the wind is above 13-14 knots.

Light sails otherwise. Code zero usually does not work by itself, and with more sails you also need the winches. It could actually get worse in some cases with full sail pack and no winches, compared to light sails only.

I see, but now I am really confused.
If you chose "foils" in the routing it does not give any advantage at least to Cap Finisterre?
Post by iconPost by zezo | 2020-12-12 | 12:46:02
Foils don't work upwind and in low winds.

We will be sailing against a strong low-pressure system initially, so beating upwind for at least a week.

The route may not involve Cape Finisterre at all. The Azores route could be better.

sorry if it's already been asked, but I find no trace...
if I run toxcct for Tara from the dashboard I get and error message before entering the site. Are Tara's polars still good to be downloaded from there ?
cheers

The dashboard tries to pass the server-side boat speed and TWA to the polar page.

But the TWA and TWS are unknown while the game engine is on pre-race standby. You just have to set the correct wind speed manually.

Maybe I should remove this popup. Dashboard usually transfers wind speed and and TWA to the polars app, but the values are not available before the start. Just close the popup and go ahead. Toxcct's polars work fine.

@Hardtack, how can write you a PM?

There is a "contact developer" link on the web store page.

Tsevetan,

Check Big Bird in Tara
Post by iconPost by Hardtack | 2021-01-13 | 21:12:05
Two days before Tara leg 2 start there was a VR in game message saying that "the boat has benefited from a small boatyard job".

Indeed performance is up by 20%, top speed is now 12kn (previously 10). The message goes on to say, "the interminable tacks in light wind are now history". Does anybody understand what they mean by that? As far as I can see polars where simply scaled up and best light wind TWA remains at 45°.
Post by iconPost by Pierre | 2021-01-14 | 08:53:55
Hi
I think what they mean is that during Tara 1 race, we spend many days with extremely slow speed. It was very boring. With higher speed maybe it will be more fun...
regards
Pierre
